MOTC participates in the Inauguration Ceremony of the Improved Commercial-Scale Mangrove Crab Hatchery Facility


Minister Dickson P. Hermoso of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications took part in the inauguration ceremony of the improved commercial-scale Mangrove Crab Hatchery Facility in Brgy. Polloc, Parang, Maguindanao, on June 23, 2022.

This project was spearheaded by the Mindanao State University – Maguindanao, DOST PCAARRD, and the Local Government Unit of Parang aimed to strengthen the socio-economic development in the Maguindanao province through the mangrove crab industry by producing and maintaining a reliable supply of quality crablets and providing capacity-building programs for our crab farmers in Parang Municipality.

Gracing the event with their presence were Chancellor Bai Hejira Nefertiti M. Limbona of MSU-Maguindanao, Research and Development Lead Emilia T. Quinitio of National Research Council of the Philippines, Virginia G. Salac of DOST Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development, Municipal Mayor Hon. Cahar P. Ibay, Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Adnan C. Biruar, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joseph D. Macatangay, Barangay Chairman of Polloc Abobacar Abdul, Provincial Director of Maguindanao Romeo Diocolano, Regional Director Sammy P. Malawan, Bangsamoro Director General Mohajirin T. Ali, MNSA.

Meanwhile, the project's leader, Dr. Ramjie Y. Odin, underlined his vision to revitalize the mangrove crab industry here in the BARMM and make it one of the forerunner crab industries in the Philippines through the collaboration and commitment of LGU Parang, MSU-Maguindanao, and DOST.

Moreover, he acknowledged all the people who supported the project and expressed gratitude to the vice mayor, who provided the land, and for supporting the initiative.

Minister Hermoso on one hand, in his statement of support, praised the LGU Parang, DOST, and MSU-Maguindanao for their active collaborative efforts in creating initiatives that will benefit the municipality.

On the other hand, he further said that this crab hatchery would help the BARMM region achieve food security since the municipality was endowed with wealth of water resources. He also highlighted the collaboration of several agencies and all upcoming projects.

Finally, the minister concluded with the statement that expanding the seaports in Polloc, Parang, and Maguindanao would spur economic growth and draw in investors, as this initiative will generate revenue once fully implemented and sustained.
