DITO 5G Now in Bangsamoro Government Center
June 22, 2022 – DITO Telecommunity has fulfilled the commitment it made to MOTC to provide 5G connectivity to the Bangsamoro Government Center in Cotabato City. BARMM now has the distinction of being the fourth area in the country with DITO’s 5G, coming after Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao. This is the result of a high-level meeting between Minister Dickson P. Hermoso of MOTC and DITO’s Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago and Chief Administrative and Legal Officer Adel Tamano.
The service is now available to 5G-capable mobile phones with DITO 5G SIM-cards. With an indoor data terminal using Fox Wireless Access, the mobile data can be converted to wireless with speeds of up to 500 Mbps. One such terminal was demonstrated by DITO today to representatives from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the Bangsamoro Telecommunications Commission, the Bangsamoro Information and Communication Technology Office, and the Office of the Chief Minister.
DITO Telecommunity is fully committed to helping improve connectivity in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. DITO is presently putting up cell-sites in the mainland provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. According to Atty. Adel A. Tamano, the telecommunications firm intends to expand even up to the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. In this regard, one option DITO is looking into is a low earth orbit satellite.
Both General Santiago and Atty. Tamano of DITO expressed their appreciation of the collaboration between their firm and MOTC, a sentiment gladly shared by MOTC Minister Dickson P. Hermoso.
