May 4, 2023- The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), through the Bangsamoro Airport Authority (BAA), in coordination with the Municipal Government of Malabang and the Ministry of Public Works Lanao del Sur DEO and other coordination partners conducted an ocular inspection at the Malabang Airport to assess the current situation and to emphasize the need to optimize development and future operation.
Malabang Airport is a concrete airport located in the coastal town of Malabang, Lanao del Sur, with a runway measuring 1,360 meters (4,462 feet). It is a non-operational community airport that was officially turnover to the management of the MOTC-BARMM by the Cicil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), last January 11, 2023.
Meanwhile, to bring into its future operation, parameters were analyzed to study the airport further for potential commercial operations. As an initial step to secure the area, a construction of a perimeter fence was proposed by Minister Paisalin Tago. He then ordered BAA Director 1-Attorney Hanamir Emblawa to consider it one of their priorities for future project implementation.
Moreover, the Local Government Unit (LGU) considered Malabang Airport a gateway strategic to neighboring regions and the possibility of further development would open doors to impact the area and the region’s financial and economic image.
