Delegation from MOTC Gains Insights and Opportunities in Kuala Lumpur

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), led by Minister Atty. Paisalin P. Tago, Deputy Minister Muhammad Ameen Abbas, and Service Directors recently completed a transformative five-day visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The trip was designed to foster coordination and learning exchanges and to gather critical insights that can significantly influence policy-making and strategic planning for the Bangsamoro region. By engaging with key institutions, the delegation explored innovative perspectives in land, water, air services, and telecommunications, equipping themselves with knowledge to enhance regional services.

Throughout their visit, the MOTC delegation held fruitful discussions with officials from the Malaysian Ministry of Transportation, Tabung Haji, and the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies ( IAIS). A meeting with the founder of AirAsia, who shared invaluable insights on airline operations and market strategies. These engagements were pivotal, offering the delegation perspective on enhancing connectivity and developing partnerships vital for the Bangsamoro region’s economic and social growth. Such insights directly inform future policies to improve transportation infrastructure and service delivery.

One of the most promising outcomes of the visit was AirAsia’s expressed interest in launching a daily flight between Cotabato and Manila. This new route is set to enhance travel accessibility, support ec-tourism initiatives, and significantly reduce passenger travel disruptions. For the Bangsamoro region, introducing this flight represents a vital opportunity to stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and foster cultural exchange, all of which are critical considerations for policymakers as they plan for the future.
